Utilitarian Sculpture (yü - ti - lə - tēr - e - ən skulp - chər)

1.purveyors of finely designed and crafted furniture, furnishings and more. 2. of, referring to, or aiming at utility. 3. the act or art of processing (as by carving, modelling or welding) hard materials into works of art. 4. commonly known as USD.

Yeah, I know it’s a mouthful, but I came to this name through a lot of contemplation and mental calisthenics. Utilitarian Sculpture is not only the name of the company, but the defining theory that we work under. The concepting, design and fabrication of a piece of furniture is just as valid an artistic expression as any other form of art. The only difference is the intent. Inherently, furniture is designed for a purpose, to be used and enjoyed. Where as art can be created simply for art's sake.

Everything that you have seen or will see in this website was created by me or in collaboration with clients. I love to work either way, as long as the end result is something that will be a beautiful addition to the space that it was created for. All of the pieces included have been or can be made as well as reproduced, but are in no way a limitation of what we can do.

In a world of planned obsolescence and cookie cutter catalogues my goal is to create pieces that are unique, will stand the test of time and be able to be passed down through generations. I’d love the opportunity to create something for you or to collaborate with you to make something amazing for your space.

I was born in the county of Kings and raised on Long Island from the age of 4, where I have now returned to live with and raise a family of my own. As a young child I usually wanted to draw with a pen over coloring with markers or crayons. There has always been some form of expression prevalent in my life. From drawing, painting and sculpture to playing music and writing. Design and fabrication of furniture is where everything has landed. I believe the furniture I create, though modern, has classic and timeless qualities. I believe in simple and clean design, and the beauty that lies within that.

I have always been different, never able to be pigeon-holed. My mind just works in a unique way and that’s what makes my work what it is. What differentiates my work from others is me.

I’m grateful for the privilege of being able to do what I do and make a client’s face light up when they see the end results of our work together.

I look forward to the opportunity of starting the process with you. - greg krinsky
